Ivory-billed Woodpecker Trip Report

Ecological Notes and Discussion

Choctawhatchee River, Florida

In December of 2006, one of NBP′s zoologists went on a personal trip to take notes on the birds and ecology of the Choctawhatchee River of Florida where there has been evidence gathered by Auburn University suggesting the presence of Ivory-billed Woodpeckers. He has shared his extensive chronological log of his trip, pictures and ecological discussion of his findings.

The author is also working on the feeding ecology, hypothetical genetics, and other topics concerning this species. He welcomes collaboration with other interested parties.

NBP would like to thank Fred A. Virrazzi for the report and Janice Casper, a professional artist from Walls of Wonder in New Jersey, for her beautiful, original painting..

Personal thanks from the author go to D. Magpiong, J Casper, M. Casper, C. Dunne, E. DeVito, MV and AV, A. Nappi and J. and P. Dubois and others.
